------------------------------------------------------ This study focuses on how recording of calves in accordance with the... |

This study estimated crop water requirements using CROPWAT while AQUACROP and CERES models evaluated performance in simulating biomass and grain yield of upland rice’s response to different irrigation schedule. NERICA 4 was subjected to five treatment given as: full (100%ET), good (80%ET), medium (60%ET), average (40%ET), and low (20%ET) and three replicates in a randomized block design. It was planted at the farmyard of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) Ibadan, Nigeria for two seasons 2015 and 2016 and the results of the first season was used in model calibration while second season’s result was used in validation. Biomass and grain yields values were obtained and compared with simulated values from AQUACROP and CERES and the... |

ABSTRACT The study aimed to evaluate the effect of different NPK doses on the yield components of papaya hybrid 'Caliman 01'. The experiment was carried at the company WG Fruticultura, located in the Chapada do Apodi region. Five nitrogen doses (94, 590, 837, 1088 and 1575 kg N ha-1), five phosphorus doses (10, 72, 96, 133 and 195 kg P2O5 ha-1) and five potassium doses (75, 527, 752, 978 and 1429 kg K2O ha-1), were combined according to the experimental matrix Pan Puebla II, in 16 combinations and distributed in a randomized block design, with five repetitions. The plots consisted of six papaya plants and the four central plants were evaluated. The fertilizers urea, monoammonium phosphate and potassium chloride were used as NPK sources, respectively. The... |

Some productivity measures area analyzed. The emphasis is on concepts, limitations and on some empirical results. Software is not discussed. The productivity measures are classified in optimized, whenever obtained by an optimization procedure, and not optimized, as yield, labor productivity and total factor productivity (ptf). The work shows when yields and total factor productivity say the same thing to conclude that this is possible only in a primitive agriculture where labor and land are the only factors of production used. This type of agriculture is present only in backward regions of Brazil. Hence yield, except in this situation, is a poor measure of profitability. Empirical works show that the development of Brazilian agriculture follows a path of... |

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of adding slow-release urea to replace conventional urea in the diet on carcass characteristics of feedlot sheep. We used 20 Santa Ines x SRD rams, with average body weight of 21.1±1.2 kgand average age of 120 days, distributed in a completely randomized design with 5 treatments. The replacement levels used as treatments were 0, 20, 40, 60, and 80%, composing diets of about 12% crude protein, with 50 % Tifton-85 hay and 50% concentrate. There was no influence of slow release urea on weight at slaughter (35.17 kg), and on hot (16.75 kg) and cold (16.24 kg) carcass weight, but the yield of these carcasses showed quadratic trend, revealing lower percentages at 48.5 and 47.63% replacement levels, respectively. Lima beans (Phaseolus lunatus L.) are alternative food and income sources for the population of Northeastern Brazil. In this region, lima beans are consumed either as green or dry grains. However, low yields have been observed, a challenge that could be overcome by adequate organic and mineral fertilization. This work intended to assess lima beans yield, cultivar Raio de Sol, as affected by doses of cattle manure in the presence and absence of mineral NPK fertilization. The experiment was carried out at the Federal University of Paraíba, Brazil, from September, 2004 to May, 2005. The experimental design was of randomized blocks, with four replications, 40-plant plots, spaces of 1.00 x 0.50 between and within rows, respectively. Treatments were displayed in... |

An experiment was carried out from December 2005 to July 2006, in the Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri (UFVJM), in Diamantina, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, aiming at selecting sweet potato clones for the Alto Vale do Jequitinhonha. We evaluated nine clones from the UFVJM germplasm bank, using cultivars Brazlândia Branca, Brazlândia Roxa, and Princesa as controls. The experimental design was blocks at random, with four replications. Plants were harvested seven months after transplanting. We assessed the fresh mass yield of vines and roots, as well as root shape and resistance to soil insects. Genotypes did not differ from each other for the fresh mass yield of vines (ranging from 3.81 to 11.76 t ha-1). The total yield of roots ranged... |

Integrated crop-livestock systems (ICLS) can promote higher grain and meat/milk yield as well as reduce soil degradation risks. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the influence of grazing sheep with moderate intensity and nitrogen doses on soil physical attributes, and bean crop yield (Phaseolus vulgaris Lam.) under rotation with summer corn crop (Zea mays Lam.) and winter pasture with oats (Avena sativa Lam) and ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) The experimental design was completely randomized blocks with split-plot; the plots were nitrogen doses and the split-plots were grazing presence or absence. The treatments were nitrogen doses of 0, 75, 150 and 225 kg ha-1 applied on ryegrass and white oat pasture in winter followed by bean crop. Soil density,... |

The organic fruit crop should incorporate the principles of sustainable agriculture, with a guarantee of productivity coupled with ecological diversity, using techniques of policultive with regional species. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of the green manure crops [Canavalia ensiformis (jack beans), Crotalaria spectabilis (sunn hemp), Pueraria phaseoloides (tropical kudzu), Arachis pintoi (peanut forage) and spontaneous plants] and distance between espaliers on the yields of Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa (passion fruit), Ananas comosus (pineapple), Zea mays (maize), Manihot esculenta (cassava) and biomass in organic polyculture in the state of Acre, Brazil. The randomized block design experiment comprised plots encompassing the space... |
